Is time-tracking software like Visual TimeAnalyzer any good? Are fancy charts with questionable correctness worth of complicating worker's interactions with computer even further? Probably an old-fashioned week-planner, either paper or electronic with printing option, would make it better as a registration device as per Peter Drucker's recommendations on time accounting and analyzing for more effective management.

Of course, it is supposed to speed up disk access. But long passed the times when absence of disk cache made computers literally unusable. These days cache is largely for mere user convenience - it reduces continual annoying small waits during operator activities. However…

(or old mail in the Inbox for that matter)
I have outlived a good number of different web browsers already: Netscape Navigator 3.0, Netscape Communicator 4.0, Mozilla, Opera etc. Sometimes I’d transfer the bulk of bookmarks over to a new browser, other times I’d … just forget. And you know what? I never cared.

If the monitor you’re using right now is LCD display, chances are it’s got 300 dpi of resolution, potentially exploitable.
Yes, typography quality for on-screen reading can be available for no additional cost. Sounds bold? Take a look:

(Effective on certain (well, most)
LCD display types only)

Opera browser - the pioneer of the browsing sessions concept - now allows saving only the active window as a session.
Previously, if one worked on several projects and wanted to restart the browser for some reason they had to restore all the projects’ browsing windows on browser startup, or…go tweak the saved session file. That’s surely quite a mess, hindering the purpose of focusing on a single project.

I switch telephone providers every year or so. As MNP (and LNP for that matter) is not available here, I have to switch actual telephone numbers alongside. In spite of that, I try to keep all of my old numbers - gotta like to stay in touch.
Generally that is attainable (however cumbersome and sometimes expensive) by setting up all the “old” numbers to forward calls to my currently active one. In luckier parts of the world, MNP addresses most of the issues. In addition, a new trend - specialized companies providing an attractive service “one phone number for life” - has been put on rails.
On the face of it, the idea seems very alluring. Probably everybody has gone at least once in his or her life through the horrors of a telephone number change by force.

One appeal of Life Balance has to do with the similarities to GnuCash - my finance accounting tool of choice.
Indeed,
- GnuCash is about money accounting, Life Balance is about time/efforts accounting,
- GnuCash has a tree of bookkeeping accounts, Life Balance has a tree of projects,
- GnuCash has a number of useful reports, Life Balance has reports too, albeit only two: the dynamically compiled To-Do List (frankly, the main product of the system) and … the Balance report.

GnuCash team has been famous in the past for their harshness towards anything “Windows”. No wonder - the 1st version of GC was written in 1997 in Motif for X Window System which was (and still is?) light years ahead of substandard Microsoft Windows GUI in terms of professional usability.
It seemed nobody expected them (GnuCash) to release a Windows port. Me wasn’t exception either. So when I had to move from X to MS Windows I also had to keep a subsidiary UNIX machine (thank God, virtual computer was OK) special for UNIX applications, most notably for GnuCash.

For an application like Life Balance trial period shouldn’t be that short. That was surely the chief discouragement for me when I first tried it last year. I just didn’t feel serious enough entering my tasks into the Outline to see how it works.
So my take is: either you have to get a highly compelling recommendation from someone trusted to make a purchase right away or, Llamagraphics should describe in detail on how to retain your valuable data between multiple trial installs/deinstalls.

Since my very first days with a GSM handset I’ve been heavily using this little yet essential service - Email-to-SMS gateway. In fact, this part of the mobile package was determinative in deciding to enter then-undue mobile realm.
Fast forward few years to now, and what I see is “Push e-mail” as the hottest topic in today’s wireless business world. The whole enterprises like BlackBerry sprung out of this sole concept - “always-on” email.
