Google AdSense has finally brought in $100 for couple of websites (incl. this one) participating in the program since the year's start. Most of the revenue came in during the last month or two, likely due to ad-space restructuring: removing AdSense for Search and reducing clutter a bit. $100 is a minimum paid by Google via cheque.

Мы с нашей проблемой отключения МТС шлюза email-SMS не одиноки. Твиттер отключил SMS уведомления для всего мира за исключением США, Канады и Индии. Причина, думаю сходная: только в Северной Америке (насчёт Индии не уверен) мобильные абоненты платят за входящие СМС и получают обслуживание по высшему разряду. У нас беслпатно, но и никаких гарантий, как с freeware.

“Calling Party Pays” (CPP) telecom paradigm looks good at first sight: you can use a premium service of which mobile telephony is a notable example, and still pay nothing for it.
Of course, it’s not completely free – a person calling or texting you pays for both ends of the link: sending of the message by them and receiving it by you. It is the popular impression of freeness which prompted speedier development in early mobile history in Europe compared to North America which has been stuck with MPP (“Mobile Party Pays”).
Now, as the world’s mobile industry matured and new business models with unusual requirements started to emerge, one of the industry’s cornerstones – CPP – seems to be breaking the progress.

I’ve developed what appears once again to be a good habit – NOT to upgrade a WordPress instance soon after new [sub-]version release. Wait at least a month.
Indeed, why hurry? I back up both database and file systems regularly and automatically, most inherently insecure features of the system (like user registration) are turned off, Apache’s mod_security is in place…
However, the rule of waiting a month (more is better) for a release to mature resulted in my installation being stuck with some old version of WP (2.2) – they just were updating way too quickly. And I started to feel slow in implementing new features in my blogs. So I took a plunge with WordPress 2.6.

Recently I'm seeing a lot of hired commentators promoting loads of *.RU domains registered just a couple of weeks before comment time. It seems logical to automatically remove all comment author URLs which are in .ru TLD. See below for a WordPress plugin for that.

Advertising experiment held at www.STEREO.org.ua persistently shows double the advantage for English when compared to blogging in Russian. Everything is virtually twice more effective in English: CTR, CPM, earnings. The only pale thing is CPC with its modest 25% improvement to Russian.
