“Internet quality!” – that’s become a proverbial reference of most all audio recordings available from the web… It’s amazing how they manage to achieve such “turn-off” sound in MP3 files with such massive bitrates like 256 kbps – a sad commonality of today’s internet audio. Let alone recordings of sub-128 kbps quality.

Nothing like that can be said of audio materials found here on STEREO.org.ua.

First of all, only original sound recordings are published here. They’re being captured in no less than CD-Audio quality (uncompressed 44.1 kHz/16bit) or 44/24bit and higher with high fidelity microphones, mic preamps and ADC’s.

Secondly, raw audio material is processed employing industry’s best practices without excessive NR’ing and other amateurish techniques. It is then encoded into MP3 with very reasonable settings (MP3-VBR lame -V 4, resulting in ABR of 150 kbps – not too low, so it is still listenable and not too big, so it is still downloadable) for www distribution.

Just have a listen.

And by the way, you’ve probably heard that a good writer is the one who reads a lot. I also tend to think that a good audio publisher should be listening to a lot of stuff too. Partially in an attempt to become a better sound-person I strive to listen to fine music.

Hi!

My name is Alexander.

My main hobby is collecting sounds. This actually means quite a few of things:

• I may be stuck at home fiddling with my collection, uploading samples thereof to the web, making a new set of stereo microphones, or
• I may hang out “on location” meeting some weird people – whom I record or who make some notable noises which I record, or
• I may ride my MTB to get to a really difficult location to make a unique recording.

See, this simple sounding pastime is quite capable of keeping anybody broadly busy. Certain activities somewhat related (or absolutely unrelated) to collecting sounds are the subject of this blog.

Also note, as I happen to write for the local folks I may occasionally choose to use local language(s). This is for two main reasons: better comprehension by the target audience and leaving the world audience free from uncomprehensible stuff.
